Big Oil Discovers a Slick OPC Solution

Several leading oil companies, including ExxonMobil, Chevron and BP, are using OPC Crosslink from Cyberlogic to manage OPC data, by bridging data between OPC servers, configuring redundant servers and configuring data concentrators.
The oil giants ExxonMobil, Chevron and BP are increasingly turning to compliance-certified OPC technology from Cyberlogic to aggregate information from legacy OPC servers and build reliable, redundant information systems that can handle volumes of data efficiently.

The key technology is the Cyberlogic OPC Crosslink Suite, which Cyberlogic unveiled as part of its Version 7 release to complement its best-selling OPC server suite products. “Our customers in the oil industry are finding that OPC Crosslink is designed to do three things extremely well,” says Dan Muller, Cyberlogic’s Director of Product Development. The OPC Crosslink Suite seamlessly provides three solutions for the user to:

•    Bridge data between OPC servers
•    Configure OPC Data Concentrators
•    Configure Redundant OPC servers

OPC Crosslink Suite is delivered as a single, integrated product with an extensive set of features that work together. An unlimited number of OPC servers can be used for OPC data bridging and for OPC data aggregation. OPC Crosslink also allows the configuration of an unlimited number of redundant backup OPC servers, and the product can be configured to bridge data between redundant source and destination OPC servers.

OPC Crosslink is integrated into Cyberlogic’s Universal OPC Server architecture and the suite provides all the native features of the Cyberlogic compliance-certified OPC Server.

According to Muller, “From New Zealand to Alaska, from Germany to Kazakhstan, oil companies are deploying OPC Crosslink to build redundant OPC data concentrators that can also bridge data between primary servers and between backup servers. There is no other product on the market comparable to OPC Crosslink Suite to accomplish this feat.”

Cyberlogic’s current version 7 products support 64-bit and 32-bit Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003.

Cyberlogic is a leading independent supplier of OPC server and industrial communication software with more than a quarter-million copies shipped to 130 countries.

Cyberlogic OPC Server Suites are integrated, all-in-one products. Their built-in reliability features allow the configuration of an unlimited number of redundant OPC servers, redundant networks and redundant devices. Cyberlogic’s Universal OPC Server includes a Health Monitor that continuously verifies the operation of each OPC server, network and device, automatically switching to backups when there is a problem. The built-in unsolicited messaging feature allows the configuration of an unlimited number of nodes that can initiate unsolicited data transmission, eliminating the need for polling for data.

All components of Cyberlogic OPC Suites are developed by Cyberlogic, and all required device drivers are integrated into the Suites. The products do not require any third-party add-ons.
