Content Type  Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) is a percentage calculation determined by three major components—availability, performance (or run time) and quality. The goal of OEE is to enhance a plant’s ability to get the very most of out existing equipment by making it more productive.

Here’s the process for calculating OEE:

Availability—this is the total time equipment actually runs divided by the total possible time the equipment could run.

Total run time = 7 hours
Total time in shift = 8 hours    = 0.875 x 100 = 87.5%

Performance—this is the total time equipment was in cycle producing divided by the total time scheduled to run.

Total time in cycle = 6.2 hours
Total scheduled runtime = 7 hours    = 0.886 x 100 = 88.6%

Quality—this is the ratio of good parts produced divided by the total parts produced.

Good parts produced = 900
Total parts produced = 1000    = 0.90 x 100 = 90.0%

To calculate OEE, take the three percentages and multiply them together, then divide by 10,000.

87.5 x 88.6 x 90.0
          10,000           = 69.77%
