The FFCS retains the same reliable architecture, control functions and fully redundant configuration as controllers used by large plants, says the vendor, but is only 20 percent of the size of a conventional controller. Other enhanced features of R3.04 include support for Profibus DP-V1, commonly used in discrete manufacturing processes, as well as improved support for Foundation Fieldbus. A subsystem gateway station has also been developed that employs OLE for Process Control (OPC), an industry standard interface, which improves connectivity with electrical facilities, machining equipment and other subsystems.
