OptiTuff® Mini Pre-Terminated Fiber Trunks Combine Durability, Performance and Installation Ease

Oct. 12, 2022
The industry’s only cost-effective, ruggedized fiber assembly that combines the best characteristics of metal armored and non-armored solutions.

Belden, a leading global supplier of network infrastructure solutions, is excited to announce the release of its OptiTuff Mini Pre-Terminated Fiber Trunks. Built with the same performance characteristics as OptiTuff Mini Fiber Cables, these fiber trunks are the only assemblies that combine the durability of metal armored solutions with the performance and installation ease of non-armored solutions.

As a cost-effective, ruggedized replacement option for traditional metal armored and non-armored fiber pre-terminated products, OptiTuff Mini Pre-Terminated Fiber Trunks will protect and organize cables—no grounding or conduit required—in data centers, enterprise LAN environments, hospitality and gaming and casino environments.

Fewer cable layers plus the elimination of metal armor results in a lightweight assembly with lots of flexibility, a small diameter and small bend radius for fast and easy cable preparation, installation and pulling.

These cable assemblies don’t just stand above other cable assemblies in their category—they stand alone. When comparing weight and diameter, OptiTuff Mini Pre-Terminated Fiber Trunks are:

  • 90% lighter than traditional aluminum interlock armored (AIA) trunks
  • 66% smaller than AIA trunks
  • 16% smaller than non-armored trunks
  • Three times smaller than non-armored trunks
  • Nine times smaller than metal-armored trunks

They also boast two times the crush resistance of non-armored trunks, increased flexibility compared to metal armored trunks and are up to 50% less expensive than AIA trunks.

“OptiTuff Mini Pre-Terminated Fiber Trunks build on installers’ demand for cost-effective, lighter-weight, smaller-diameter fiber cables with mechanical properties similar to metal armored products,” says Carlos Matos, product manager at Belden. “This distinctive set of characteristics makes these assemblies an optimal solution for projects that require easy-to-install fiber, including small spaces, raceways and environments with lots of tight and challenging turns—without having to worry about cable preparation or termination.”
