System Integration: Maverick Acquires CQS Innovation

The acquisition expands Maverick’s batch process and systems validation capabilities, and increases its distributed control systems (DCS) capabilities for the for life sciences, chemical and metals industries.

When searching for a main automation contractor (MAC) or system integrator for a batch control system upgrade or line expansion, pharmaceutical and chemical plants need partners with specific experience. Maverick, a global vendor of industrial automation, enterprise integration and strategic manufacturing solutions, has made an acquisition to expand it batch process and systems validation capabilities, and increases its distributed control systems (DCS) capabilities for the for life sciences, chemical and metals industries.

Maverick has acquired CQS Innovation, Inc. This Michigan-based systems integrator expands Maverick’s size and scale as a global organization with 19 office locations and 500+ engineering professionals.

CQS’s “profound experience in batch process and systems validation for the life sciences industry is a perfect fit for our pharmaceutical and chemical clients as they seek to achieve regulatory compliance, minimize downtime and maximize efficiency,” said Maverick founder and CEO Paul Galeski. “We are very enthusiastic about joining forces with CQS Innovation’s talented team.” Chris Roerig, current president of CQS Innovation, will join Maverick as industry manager for life sciences.

“We are seeing a shift in global manufacturers’ needs. More and more, they’re turning to independent systems integrators with the manpower and expertise to improve operations worldwide,” Galeski said. “Our combined size, scale and competency make Maverick even better equipped for empowering process manufacturing for American manufacturers to compete globally.”

Together, the two companies comprise 13,000 man-years of experience, Galeski added.

Maverick has acquired eight strategically aligned companies since its founding in 1999. These include Laplace Technologies, a global provider of advanced process control (APC), engineering and instrumentation services, and GE Automation Solutions (GEAS), which in 2005 significantly expanded Maverick’s business in key vertical markets such as utilities, environmental, high-tech / semiconductors and chemicals.
