Why STEM Education May Not Serve Engineers

FILED IN:  Workforce Development
The scientific method of inquiry differs from the engineering approach to problem solving. Why is the approach used by the Wright brothers better? Michigan State University Professor Clark Radcliff explains in this TAC 2012 One on One interview (Approximate Time: 9:00)

Great podcast about the difference in rigors of study between pure science and engineering. One of the best enngineers I know, my father, defined engineering as solving problems with a limited amount of resources. Definitely a message protrayed here. Engineering is made possible by the application of pure science principles, but the art of engineering is an entirely different process. Great listen.

Thanks for the feedback. Engineers AND scientists have always been some of my favorite people, and I found this a fascinating look into why a person might choose one career path over another--kind of like the difference between an English major and a journalism major (I'm both). I like a lot your father's definition of an engineer--spot on!
