Richard C. Peters, CMfgE, PE, of Bucyrus, Ohio, is the president of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) for 2004. Peters is chief manufacturing engineer at The Timken Co., Bucyrus, Ohio. An SME member since 1979, he is an incumbent international director and served as president-elect of the organization in 2003. He is past chair of Region 7 and Greater Canton Chapter 110. He previously served on SME’s Professional Licensure Committee and remains active in SME’s Manufacturing Engineering Certification Institute (MECI/SME) activities.

As chief manufacturing engineer at The Timken Co., a manufacturer of tapered roller bearings, Peters manages the engineering and maintenance departments for the two Bucyrus, Ohio, district facilities, directing both staffs in optimizing equipment processes, productivity and quality. Peters holds degrees in mechanical engineering, a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, and a master’s degree from the University of Akron, Akron, Ohio.
