Sam Parino is the chief information officer, Global Refining, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the ChevronTexaco Corp., a $100 billion integrated energy company headquartered in San Ramon, Calif. The company, which employs approximately 53,000 and is active
in 180 countries, is the result of the October 2001 merger of Chevron Corp. and Texaco Inc.
Total refining capacity and total retail outlet sales in 2002 were, respectively, 2.3 million barrels of crude oil per day and 2 million barrels of gasoline and diesel per day. As well, the company sells over a million barrels of jet, marine and power fuels and lubricants per day.
Global Refining is part of ChevronTexaco’s downstream operations, which refine crude oil and market, transport and trade petroleum products throughout the world.
Parino, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of California, has been with the organization for 21 years. Starting as an engineer with the Richmond Refinery, in Richmond, Calif., he later moved to Chevron Products Co., San Francisco, as a senior facilities planner. He spent seven years in operations management, at the Singapore Oronite Plant and the St. James, La., Styrene Monomer Plant.
Recently, Parino was named CIO Global Refining, operating out of the San Ramon headquarters. As part of ChevronTexaco’s reorganization of downstream operations, Parino is charged with merging the refining information technology and process control departments into one global, functional service provider.
