Logix Native Tag Support

Feb. 14, 2007
With new native tag support of Allen-Bradley’s Logix series PLCs, users can easily integrate the vendor’s G3 series HMI, Modular Controller and Data Station products with the ControlLogix and CompactLogix PLCs, via serial or Ethernet.
“With native tag support, users won’t have to duplicate their efforts in regard to tag creation,” says Jesse Benefiel, product manager at the vendor. Support of this protocol “means that users won’t be forced to alias their tags, saving considerable programming time,” he says. The PLC’s tags are simply exported as a CSV file from Allen-Bradley’s RSLogix 5000 software, and then imported into the vendor’s Crimson 2.0 software. A simple click of a button automatically creates matching tags within Crimson. A tool is also provided that allows PLC tags to be generated within Crimson, thus avoiding the import process for the addition of subsequent PLC tags.
