Multi-turn Rotary Encoder

June 1, 2005
The SKM 36 SinCos Motor Feedback System is a multi-turn rotary encoder that tracks absolute position over 4,096 turns. The SKM 36 features a minimum number of components to allow miniature and subminiature motor manufacturers to considerably shorten the overall length of their motors.

The gearbox design includes only three stages of operations, compared with five or six stages common to conventional multi-turn gearbox designs. Conventional systems typically have code disc, ball bearing and shaft errors. The SKM 36 features Mini-Disc technology that includes a track radius of just 2mm. This permits full scanning of the entire code disc that compensates for errors common to conventional systems, effectively eliminating their negative effects on system performance, says the vendor.
