Kollmorgen: Direct Drive Servos

May 1, 2004
The Kollmorgen Cartridge DDR direct drive rotary servomotors represent a new category of direct drive technology, according to the vendor, that combines the performance advantages of frameless direct drive motors with the ease of installation of full-frame motors.

CE marked and UL listed, Cartridge DDR motors feature pre-engineered components, an integrated, factory-aligned high resolution feedback device and a bearing-less design. The Cartridge DDR design eliminates the mechanical transmission parts found in traditional servo designs, resulting in the following benefits: simplified installation of less than 30 minutes, increased machine uptime due to maintenance-free operation, up to 20 db quieter operation, up to 50 times greater accuracy and zero maintenance, says the vendor. The motors’ electromagnetic design also provide up to 50 percent more torque density than comparably sized conventional servomotors. Cartridge DDR motors are available in two frame sizes with three stack lengths per frame.
