NI has released the first two WSN nodes, NI WSN-3202 and NI WSN-3212. The WSN-3202 is a four channel, +/- 10 V analog input node and the WSN-3212 is a four-channel, 24-bit thermocouple node, which has four, digital I/O channels that can be configured for input, sinking output or sourcing output. The WSN platform includes the NI WSN-9791 Ethernet gateway.
The wireless devices include NI-WSN software, which connect the NI wireless devices to LabVIEW software running on Microsoft Windows or a LabVIEW Real-Time host controller. Based on IEEE 802.15.4 technology, the software offer capabilities for mesh routing and managing power usage across the network. And LabVIEW can provide integration with wired measurement devices and a wide range of third-party wireless sensor network platforms.
One other cool thing about the WSN nodes is the ability to customize the embedded software on each node using LabVIEW Wireless Sensor Network Module Pioneer. The module allows for easy programming to extend battery life, perform custom analysis and reduce response time with embedded decision making.
Applications include industrial machine monitoring, environmental monitoring and power quality and consumption, among others.
