The ServoSpline positioning stage's drive mechanism provides backlash-free motion and simplified control.

The system is an extension of a classic rack-and-pinion design that provides simple motion commands and positions the stage in the x- and y-axes by independently driving the two splines. Technical advantages include no backlash, long life and easy implementation. The positioning stage can serve in a wide variety of machines requiring easily-implemented motion stages in applications including 3D printers, automated assembly, dispensing, engraving, additive manufacturing, biomedical titer plate indexing and pipetting for diagnostic equipment. The motor driven crossed splines can deliver the stage to any x-y coordinate with very simple motion commands. The system's dimensions are 396 x 396 x 80, mm, while maximum travel length is 160 x 160 mm (6.3 x 6.3 inches), kinematic flatness of motion is ±100 µm (±0.0004 in.), standard accuracy is ±100 µm (±0.0004 in.), and pitch, roll and yaw are listed at 50 arc-sec. Maximum speed is 250 mm/s (9.8 in./s), maximum acceleration is 1 g, and maximum kinetic load is 2.5 kg (5.5 lb).
