Festo: Proximity Sensor and Fast Short-Stroke Electric Cylinder

April 16, 2012
The proximity sensors are compatible with all the company's drives with C-slots and with round cylinders using the respective mounting kit; the cylinder works like a pneumatic cylinder, but is much more dynamic.

The SMT-/SME-10M proximity sensors detect the position of magnets fitted to pneumatic drives. Central mounting ensures that the sensors are securely mounted in the slots. Vibration, shock, and tensile forces on the cable will not cause the sensors to come loose or lead to unreliable functioning. The units' reed switches are equipped with internal protection circuits to increase service life. The sensors are suitable for drag-chain as well as robotic applications. The ADNE-LAS short stroke cylinder with integrated linear motor is optimized for dynamic movements between two end positions. It can execute a motion cycle with advance and retract strokes of 0.6 inches (15 mm) in 64 ms (frequency of up to 13.6 Hz). The system is suitable for applications that require dynamic motion without positioning, such as ejecting work pieces, blocking motions, or actuating effectors. Force is constant across the entire stroke, which is available up to 1.8 inches (45mm).
