Network-Ready System-on-Chip Products
Dust Networks, Hayward, Calif. manufacturer of low-power embedded wireless sensor networking (WSN) systems, has extended its product platform to include network-ready System-on-Chip (SoC) products. The companyâs new SoC products combine low-power radio technology and networking capabilities with the companyâs Time Synchronized Mesh Protocol (TSMP) in a Mote-on-Chip (MoC), setting new power and performance benchmarks for reliable wireless sensor networking, according to the companyâs press release. âWith the recent industry announcements and standards development activity in the industrial market, our customers are seeing accelerating demand for wireless monitoring and control solutions,â said Joy Weiss, chief executive officer of Dust Networks. âOur MoC products deliver highly integrated, ultra low-power WSN solutions, providing the design and manufacturing flexibility that will enable our customers to meet this growing market demand.â Dustâs network-ready MoC products use 80 percent less power than comparable commercially available radios, according to the company. âPower consumption and battery life have been major barriers to WSN adoption in many industrial markets because end-users will not accept additional requirements to service their field devices,â said Harry Forbes, senior analyst at ARC Advisory Group Inc., in Dedham, Mass. âDustâs new SoC products will extend the service life of future industrial WSN products that use TSMP technology.
