Data Protection for BYOD

July 25, 2013
As more personal devices such as tablets and smartphones are used to connect to company data, securing cloud-based control of the data becomes increasingly important.

With the increasing use of BYOD (bring your own device) programs in manufacturing (see links at bottom of this article to recent Automation World coverage of BYOD), one of the biggest issues surrounding this trend has been the security of corporate data.

To address this issue, Druva has enhanced the features offered with private cloud deployments of its inSync endpoint data protection and governance platform. Druva is an enterprise backup software provider that offers integrated data protection and governance solutions for enterprise laptops, PCs, smartphones and tablets. The company has more than 1,800 customers and protects one million endpoints across 46 countries.

Druva says the new enhancements to its in Sync Private Cloud product ensure continuous user access to all desktop, laptop, tablet and smartphone data backed up by inSync. New features include multi-destination backup and automatic failover capabilities of the inSync Private Cloud to defend against endpoint data theft, mobile device loss and unmanaged file sharing as well as to track the movement of all endpoint data across devices and users for governance and compliance purposes.

Other capabilities of the improved inSync Private Cloud include:
● Dual destination backups to primary and secondary servers with individually configurable backup schedules
● Automatic failover of backup and restore operations to the secondary site, enabling end users to access backed-up documents and other data even in disaster scenarios
● Periodic population of the secondary server by the primary, accelerating secondary backups while also reducing bandwidth needs.

Druva says the inSync Private Cloud can be managed by in-house IT staff or delivered as a managed service.  On-premise and public cloud deployments are also available.

All deployment options offer inSync's integrated suite of endpoint data backup, file sharing, data loss prevention and analytics solutions, designed to protect and govern data on both fixed and mobile endpoint devices. Benefits include consolidated endpoint policy management across all devices and users, global de-duplication across backup and file sharing, a single client experience across all endpoint data for end users, and a complete audit trail of all data.
