Watlow® Announces KGS Certification for Korea

Feb. 18, 2021

Watlow®, an industry leader in the design and manufacture of complete thermal systems with operations in Seoul, South Korea, announced today that it has attained KGS certification. The Korea Gas Safety Corporation (KGS) is a governmental organization subordinated under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE). KGS was accredited as a Korea notified inspection body in 2006, and the group assists the Korean government with defining and inspecting industrial and domestic gas-based equipment to ensure public safety.

“We are excited to offer this important safety certification in Korea,” said Kevin Schloemann, Watlow’s vice president of the energy and environmental technologies business unit. “Korea is a critically important market for us, and the KGS certification assures our customers that our HYDROSAFE® dry gas seal solution will deliver safe and effective performance.”

The certification extends to the entire assembly of Watlow’s HYDROSAFE system, which is housed in an Ex ‘d’ enclosure rated for -60°C to 80°C. The HYDROSAFE system consists of a matched heater and control panel. Customers may choose from a wide variety of standard features. Some customization is available for uncommon application needs.

“KGS certification is a vital step in attaining our business objectives for the Korean market,” said Vincent Park, representative director of Watlow Korea. “Adding KGS certification to the

HYDROSAFE system provides customers with an additional measure of assurance for their dry gas seal processes.”

Process fluid temperature is maintained while the equipment temperature code is maintained for T2 or T3 ratings for 760-XXXX-XXXX construction, T2, T3 or T4 rating for 760-XXX-XXX-S construction. HYDROSAFE is limited to 31.2 kilowatts and 690 volts, and the enclosure has been tested according to the requirements of IEC 60529 and meets IP66. The temperature class is related to the process heating element temperature or process temperature, whichever is highest.
