The Siemens Simatic S7-1500VF virtual PLC is a software-defined automation controller designed for failsafe automation applications, with safety functions up to SIL3 and PLe. With the fail-safe variant of the virtual PLC, the proven, integrated mechanisms for functional safety are implemented in an industrial edge environment, allowing users to migrate safety-sensitive applications to a virtual automation environment. This fail-safe variant of the virtual controller has the corresponding TÜV approval in accordance with IEC 61508 and is already in use with pilot customers. The functional safety mechanisms in the Simatic S7-1500VF do not require any special hardware on the host system.
