Benjamin Electric Innovates Its Power Distribution Approach

July 3, 2025
Wago's PLCs and DC power supplies enable Benjamin Electric to create custom power distribution solutions for microgrids and battery energy storage systems.

Benjamin Electric is known for creating specialized power distribution equipment that rivals offerings from major switchboard manufacturers. Unlike these larger companies, Benjamin Electric fills a unique space in the market, focusing on intricate designs and customizations that most industry leaders often can’t deliver. Their commitment to tackling unique and complex challenges has resulted in a growing customer base, as both distributors and end-users increasingly look to manufacturers for custom solutions.

Benjamin Electric’s journey toward optimizing power systems led them to Wago products, not through distribution channels but through their direct service approach. Seeking high-quality components that could support advanced machine-level programming and integration, owner Danny Benjamin said: “It wasn’t just about replacing a component; it was about enhancing our capabilities.”

He added that Wago’s open programming flexibility, ease of integration and compatibility with Linux allowed Benjamin Electric’s team to achieve the customization and functionality required for their complex projects.

In particular, Wago’s PLCs and DC power supplies now serve as critical elements within Benjamin Electric’s power systems. They’ve been instrumental in creating highly efficient microgrids and battery energy storage systems that support solar integration, effectively managing surplus solar power to bring projects closer to net-zero energy goals. For example, with Benjamin Electric’s Compass control system, they are able to offer real-time visualization and control of energy assets, giving users control over energy flows and priority management within their systems. Benjamin noted this application is especially valuable for projects that combine multiple power sources like solar arrays and generators, allowing them to balance and store energy efficiently.

As they look ahead, Benjamin Electric sees Wago's distributed I/O and networking capabilities as key enablers for future projects, especially as they continue to scale their work with microgrids and distributed power management.
