Nozomi Networks, a cybersecurity supplier for OT (operational technology), IoT (Internet of Things) and CPS (cyber physical systems), and Schneider Electric, a supplier of energy management and automation hardware and software, announced the industry's first security sensor that runs embedded in Schneider Electric remote terminal units (RTUs).
An RTU is an industrial device that collects, processes and transmits data from sensors and actuators in remote or distributed locations. They operate as a bridge between the field equipment and a central control system, enabling real-time monitoring and control of industrial processes.
According to the companies, with Nozomi Arc Embedded in Schneider SCADAPack 47xi Smart RTUs, security and operations teams “gain previously unavailable visibility at the control device layer of their industrial automation equipment and field assets as well as the ability to analyze and deter control device-level threats and malicious user activity without impacting current resources or disrupting mission-critical networks.”
Nozomi Networks explained that Arc Embedded was designed to transform existing industrial control systems into secure-by-design assets, offering a fully integrated security layer from an independent vendor that delivers comprehensive protection for in-production systems.
With this collaboration between Nozomi Networks and Schneider Electric, RTU data now be available to security and operations teams includes:
- Updates to RTU endpoint status, including software and hardware inventory, vulnerability details and resource utilization.
- Level 0 visibility to process variable data directly from the RTU without the need for external polling protocols.
- Detection of malicious and suspicious operational actions, like USB or SD card connections/removals, time setting manipulation, changes to control logic and firmware, mechanical manipulations and more.
Arc Embedded is available now for Schneider SCADAPack 47xi Smart RTUs via a subscription-based model, available from Schneider Electric, Nozomi Networks and its global network of channel partners.
