Rockwell Showcases FactoryTalk Software, Unified Robot Control

Sept. 28, 2021
IT/OT convergence and digital transformation are the topics dominating Rockwell’s booth this year.

At PACK EXPO Las Vegas, Rockwell is focusing on how companies can reap the benefits of knowledge-driven operations as well as easing integration and control of robotic automation.

On the topic of knowledge-driven operations, Rockwell’s FactoryTalk Edge Gateway software rises to the fore. According to the company, FactoryTalk drives convergence between information technology (IT) and operations technology (OT) by simplifying and automating the process of collecting and organizing data across machines, devices, and assets at the edge. To enable this, the software packages data into a configurable, common information model called a Smart Object. Through the use of Smart Objects, raw machine data can be more easily converted into useful insights that can drive better decision-making, Rockwell says.

When it comes to robotic automation, Rockwell is focusing on how better coordination between robots and control systems can help boost productivity and throughput. To achieve this, the company is demonstrating unified control methodologies that combine robots and production lines into a single control system.

In addition, Rockwell is exhibiting an assortment of other use-cases pertaining to remote access, digital twin, and cloud-based computerized maintenance management systems, which seek to highlight the broader potential of digital transformation.
