ABB is now including SVIA Industrial Automation’s PickVision system to its robots destined for machine tool applications in North American. The PickVision system, gives robots the ability to "see" the parts they are handling, thereby increasing the variety of parts they can handle. Though the PickVision technology is new to North America, there are more than 600 PickVision installations in Europe, the majority of which are with ABB industrial robots.
The PickVision system is designed for operations that handle small or large volumes of the same part. Applications for these PickVision-equipped ABB robots include CNC lathes, vertical machine centers, horizontal machine centers and grinders.
ABB says the vision system is integrated with its IRC 5 Controller, is programmable on a PC or tablet, and features a Windows 8 touch screen interface. The system also has remote service capabilities, including an iPhone App.
