connectBlue Unveils Wireless LAN Dual-band Modules

Feb. 24, 2009
connectBlue expands its Wireless LAN range by launching two high-tech modules based on the latest IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n standards. The dual-band modules operate well both on the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz bands facilitating coexistence between wireless technologies, and are designed for use in tough applications.

"Our new Wireless LAN modules are designed for heavy-duty use in modern industrial applications," said Rolf Nilsson, President of connectBlue. “Therefore, they fit perfectly in demanding applications within the medical, automotive and industrial fields.”

The OWLAN221a and OWLAN222a modules offer several unique features such as the ability to function faultless in the industrial temperature ranges of -30 up to +85C. Further, the modules support of 802.11n single stream which enables signal speeds of up to 65 Mbps. Another unique feature is the possibility to choose either an integrated antenna or dual external antennas. The modules can also operate in either infrastructure mode, ad-hoc mode or in mesh networking (802.11s).

Other popular features include extremely low power consumption and full radio approvals with CE, FCC and IC (Industry Canada) certificates.

The OWLAN221a and OWLAN222a are compatible with the existing connectBlue 802.11b/g as well Bluetooth and IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee modules. The two modules differ in the choice of either SPI or SDIO interface and they can both handle all data up to the MAC layer. Software driver packages for Linux 2.6 and WinCE 5.0/6.0 are also available.
