John Berra, Chairman, Emerson Process Management, received a B.S. in Systems Science & Engineering from Washington University in 1969 and began his career as an Instrument and Electrical Engineer in Monsanto's Corporate Engineering department.
In 1976 he joined Rosemount, where he held several management positions, including President of the Industrial Division. He was named President of Fisher-Rosemount Systems in 1993, and in 1999 he was promoted to Senior Vice President and Process Group Business Leader for Emerson Electric and President of Emerson Process Management. In August 2008, he was appointed as Chairman of Emerson Process Management. Mr. Berra has contributed not only to the success of the companies he's worked for, but also to the industry as a whole. In his days at Rosemount, he drove the development of the HART protocol. He was also an early proponent of an all-digital fieldbus and has served as the Chairman of the Board of the Fieldbus Foundation since its creation in 1994. He is a member of the Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society (ISA) and former member of the ISA President’s Industry Advisory Committee. And from 1988-1990 he was Chairman of the Board of the Measurement, Control & Automation Association. Mr. Berra has also received the Emerson Electric Technology Leadership Award, the Washington University Alumni Achievement Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society, and the Frost and Sullivan Lifetime Achievement Award.
