Four new SCARA robots contain power amplifiers and a servo controller inside the robot and are designed to lower the cost of robot installation and operation.

“The new Cobra Smart600 and Cobra Smart800 robots are fully self-contained and are more like an automation appliance than a robot. You simply connect power, plug in a PC to program it, disconnect the PC and go,” says Charlie Duncheon, executive vice president for the vendor. The Smart600 and Smart800 contain an embedded controller in the arm and have no electronics. The Cobra s600 and Cobra s800 are offered with the SmartController and provide functionality such as vision guidance, conveyor tracking and multiple robot control.
