Molex Incorporated launched  its Brad SST Actuator Sensor Interface (AS-i) Modules, designed to connect Rockwell Logix control systems, including CompactLogix, MicroLogix 1500 and ControlLogix, to an AS-interface network.   The AS-i modules provide an open fieldbus solution enabling an easy connection between the PLC backplane and simple field I/O devices such as actuators, sensors, rotary encoders, analog inputs and outputs, push buttons, and valve position sensors.  The modules, which will be showcased at Automation Fair® 2013 in Houston, TX, November 23 – 14, booth 1501, are ideal for multiple industrial automation applications, including conveyor control, packaging machines, process control valves, bottling plants, electrical distribution systems, airport carousels, elevators, bottling lines and food production lines.
“One of the most outstanding benefits of the AS-i modules is the simple and easy installation process due to the two push button design and integrated display,” said George Kairys, global product manager, Molex.  “Ultimately, this speeds up the commissioning process so that downtime, whether it is planned or unplanned, is minimized.”
The AS-i communication modules are designed for chassis mounting and can interface with signals coming from AS-i field devices, transfer that information to the PLC and send control information back to the AS-i actuator.  They meet the new AS-i specification 3.0 making them compatible with legacy versions and the very latest AS-i products.  They also feature a fast AS-i cycle time, which is ideal for high-speed, machine control applications.   The modules come bundled with cables and  configuration software and feature diagnostics that help identify configuration errors and network faults, further reducing commissioning and downtime.
