In hazardous environments, especially when flammable or explosive material is consistently present, it is important that electrical enclosures are fully sealed to eliminate potential risk for errant sparks or electricity. One of the most effective ways to do this is by using a purge which, in case of an enclosure breach, will disconnect power to the unit. However, some electronics, like networking cables, are not contained within the enclosure but rather draw power from an external source and will not be shut down by a purge alone. Swift Protech’s Signal Disconnect Module (SDM) solves this problem.

Because Ethernet carries its own power apart from the rest of the workstation, an additional module is needed to terminate this power safely. The SDM will close down power to the cable at our explosion-proof enclosure and ensure a safe work environment. When the unit is safely pressurized again, the communication will resume as normal automatically. This small addition can make enclosures considerably more safe and hassle free.
