For offshore motion control applications, particularly in the Oil & Gas industries, it has become mandatory to utilize an encoder with IECEx Zone 1/21 certifications. To accommodate that, Leine & Linde now offers its IXA 648 absolute rotary encoder as certified according to ATEX and IECEx, for use in hazardous applications where extreme conditions - such as high temperature and pressure, salty corrosive atmosphere and potentially explosive environments - are common.
The Leine & Linde IXA 648 is an inductive absolute encoder that avoids magnets and glass to provide a measurement technology that can withstand high temperatures, shock and vibrations. Its inductive scanning system also makes it insensitive to contamination. Available with up to 31-bit multiturn resolution (19/12), this encoder can communicate with a control using PROFIBUS, PROFINET, CANopen, DeviceNet, SSI or an EnDat interface.
Typical oil and gas equipment applications for the IXA 648 would include winches, cranes, top drives, drawworks, racking systems, thrusters and anchors where it would monitor measurement of speed or position. The encoder is rated for operation up to 6000rpm and 70°C. The flameproof encapsulation, flange and shaft use AISI 316L (EN 1.4404) Stainless Steel for superior resistance to corrosion. The encoder is available with both solid shaft and hollow shaft in different sizes to meet application requirements.
