Festo Features Next Generation Remote I/O and IIoT Gateway at Automation Fair 2019

Nov. 18, 2019
Automation Fair gives attendees the opportunity to explore the latest Festo innovations for Rockwell Automation systems.

At Automation Fair 2019, November 20-21, McCormick Place West, Chicago, Festo presents its next generation remote I/O system CPX-AP-I, which supports improved performance, easy commissioning, and cost effectiveness with Rockwell Automation systems. (Festo Automation Fair Booth # 1056)

Festo also showcases its IIoT solutions. The CPX-IoT Gateway and product dashboards for increased uptime and energy savings.  The CPX-FB36, the first Rockwell Automation third-party device that provides FactoryTalk Analytics for Devices (Shelby) with pneumatic health and diagnostic details.

Festo guarantees 24-hour global shipment on its core product range, which includes grippers, actuators, and other automation solutions. Festo core products cover 80 percent of automation needs. For OEMs and global Rockwell Automation customers, readily available parts and support from a world leader such as Festo improves operations and lowers cost.

CPX-AP-I remote I/O

The new Festo Encompass-referenced remote I/O system CPX-AP-I improves the performance of mixed valve terminals and I/O systems and is compatible with most communication protocols, including EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, and EtherCAT. An integrated L5X export feature provides for easy commissioning and programming by Logix users. The rugged, compact, and lightweight modules can be mounted directly on machines in IP65/IP67 rated environments. CPX-AP-I recently received a 2019 Reddot award for product design.

CPX-AP-I enables valve terminals to be moved closer to pneumatic cylinders, which reduces pressurization time and increases the machine’s overall performance. Process data in and out of each bus module is as much as two kilobytes. Scan cycles for a mix of both valve terminals and I/O are below one millisecond and are expected to approach microseconds. Latency is virtually nonexistent. This remote I/O system has the capacity of up to 80 I/O modules, which can be a mix of digital I/O, analog I/O, or I/O-Link. The distance between modules can be up to 49 feet (15 meters), 50 meters theoretically.

CPX-IoT Gateway

The Festo CPX-IoT Gateway gives customers dashboards for Festo devices, including all CPX valve terminals and the MSE6-E2M intelligent energy efficiency module. Dashboards are designed to enhance energy savings and to improve overall equipment effectiveness. Festo demonstrates a real-time E2M dashboard.

CPX-FB36

The Festo CPX-FB36 is the first Rockwell Automation third-party device that provides FactoryTalk Analytics for Devices (Shelby) with pneumatic health and diagnostic details. When combined with the MSE6-E2M intelligent energy efficiency module, Shelby creates a dashboard providing the pneumatic response of a system with up to a six-month history. The CPX-FB36 diagnostic data is also accessible by FactoryTalk TeamONE mobile app users via the Action Deck.

VTEM digital pneumatic valve terminal

The CPX-FB36 brings the revolutionary Festo VTEM intelligent valve pack into the Rockwell Automation Connected Enterprise. VTEM intelligent valve packs change functionality based on downloadable apps. Intelligent valve packs are ideal for products with short lifecycles, lines where multiple stock keeping units (SKUs) are manufactured, and small lot production. Valve pack solutions include:

·     Soft stop, which enables fast acceleration without the use of shock absorbers

·      Model-based pressure control for precise control without having to incorporate additional sensors

·      Pressure control with a fluidic muscle DMSP

·      Pre-setting travel time with a DGC linear drive

·      Flow control with flow sensors SFAH

·      Caudal regulator with the DGC linear drive

·      Pick and place with a DGSL mini slide

Festo provides add-on instructions for integrating intelligent valve packs with the Rockwell Automation architecture.

EPLAN

Festo AppWorld now has a SaaS solution for EPLAN. Simply enter a configuration of any Encompass Referenced valve terminal and the service creates an error free EPLAN project in minutes. Ideal for system integrators and solution partners, this service can save a day of work and facilitate a digital-twin development.
