Encoder Delivers Profibus Integration

May 16, 2011
The new, A3M absolute encoder offers 31-bit output—14-bit singleturn and 17-bit multiturn—and is suited for harsh environments and outdoor applications.
With an IP67 rating, the device utilizes magnetic technology that uses very few moving parts. The technology generates its own energy, internal electronics are protected from contamination and condensation, and is 100 percent maintenance free, according to the company. This current edition offers a Profibus interface, with EtherNet/IP and EtherCAT coming soon. Applications include motion control, robotics, warehousing and packaging. For packaging, the device can be used for applications such as palletizing, bag forming, filling and sealing machines. Motion control applications can communicate via the Profibus DP and removes a secondary motion control bus from the process. SICK, Inc.www.sickusa.com
