Wind Turbine OPC Server

Aug. 23, 2011
MatrikonOPC releases OPC Server for Mitsubishi wind turbines to ease integration with HMIs, historians and ERP systems.
The fact that renewable energy comprises only a small fraction of power generation worldwide has hardly blunted the enthusiasm for these alternative energy power sources. In the past week alone I’ve seen news about a small village in Germany that’s generating 321% more energy than it needs with renewable energy sources, and now comes news that MatrikonOPC has created an OPC Server specifically for one supplier’s wind turbine units.
According to MatrikonOPC, by facilitating secure, open connectivity between the field and the enterprise (via the C-Net protocol using UDP), its new OPC Server helps provide visibility into wind farm operations by connecting the turbines to any number of automation and enterprise systems, including HMIs, data historians and even ERP systems.  The OPC server is designed to operate with Mitsubishi’s MWT 600 and MWT 1000 wind turbines. And unlike other Mitsubishi-to-OPC interfaces, the MatrikonOPC Server for Mitsubishi Turbines can grant and deny access to tags based on user login.
Other features of this Mitsubishi Wind Turbine OPC Server include:
  • ability to pull historical records archived on the device and display them as alarms and events;
  • sending start and stop commands to remote turbines; and
  • support for read and write commands to analog and digital points on the turbine controller.
