Profibus Technology Grows in Brazil

March 30, 2009
Recent approval and recognition of the Center of Competence for Profibus at São Paulo University is the result of market needs, and marks a major Latin American milestone for the networking technology.

Last February, the Profibus Brazil Latin America Association achieved an important milestone for its namesake technology in the region. The Center of Competence in Profibus, established in the 2007 in the Industrial Automation Laboratory of the São Carlos Engineering School at São Paulo University, has been audited and approved as one of the world’s largest specialists in Profibus technology.

“The Center of Competence has an excellent technical infrastructure and specialists of high level in Profibus technology,” said Andy Verwer, of the Department of Engineering & Technology at Manchester Metropolitan University, in the United Kingdom. He has almost 30 years experience in teaching automation and control engineering, besides his international reputation for developing high-quality, practical and industrially relevant training. Verwer has been involved with Profibus International for more than ten years, and has developed training, installation guidelines, and commissioning guidelines.

Among other activities, the Center of Competence will provide technical support for Profibus manufacturers and users, while also establishing a permanent show room for Profibus technology. It will also serve as a Training Center, and in each capacitiy, it is the first in operation in Latin America.

"The Brazilian market has had significant growth in terms of Profibus applications and it already deserved an official Center of Competence and Training in Profibus, where we can now certify professionals and guarantee the quality of the services rendered in the industry,” said César Cassiolato, Profibus Brazil Latin America Association President.

"The Center of Competence in Profibus is a mark in Latin American Profibus history. We have in Brazil one of the largest installed bases of Profibus technology, and now users, suppliers, members and students have a specialized Center in Profibus technology, in training services, professionals' certifications and much more,” said Dennis Brandão, Coordinator of the Center.
