High-Performance displacement sensor manufacturer, Lion Precision in St. Paul, Minnesota, has opened an office in Yokohama Japan. The Lion Precision Japan Technical Center (JTC) provides local expertise on the application and service of the company’s product line. Existing Japanese distributors, as well as end users, can receive direct technical support for the company’s entire range of  sensors which can detect position changes of less than one nanometer.

Koji Masuda is the Japan Technical Center manager. Mr. Masuda has 20 years of experience using high-performance noncontact displacement sensors in many different applications. The office celebrated a grand opening on July 18. In the future, the Japan Technical Center will be a technical support base for the rest of Asia as the company continues its expansion in the region.

In 1958, Lion Precision was the first company to provide capacitive displacement sensors to industry. The company has expanded its product offering to include eddy-current displacement sensors and some application specific sensors for the machine tool, packaging and PCB industries. The company is focused on assisting users in sensor implementation by providing expert guidance and optimized systems including custom designs.

“Having local support in the same time zone that speaks Japanese is a tremendous asset for our distributors and users,” says Lion Precision president, Don Martin. He adds, “Our company is built on a commitment to working with users to develop the best possible sensing solution for their application; that is what sets us apart. With the JTC, technical questions can now be answered much more quickly and without important details being lost in translation.”

Typically, the company exports about 5% of annual sales to Japan. With the added support of the Japan Technical Center, sales in Japan are expected to steadily increase.
