The Organization for Machine Automation and Control (OMAC) has added two new sessions to its annual PackML workshop to allow for more intense training and individual attention on key tasks and strategies in typical user applications. Geared separately toward OEMs and packaging end users/integrators, the user-specific sessions will provide attendees with practical information and solutions for the PackML implementation steps they need to take.
This year’s workshop, title “PackML—Practical Approaches to Implementation,” takes place the afternoon of May 23 at the Chicago Marriott O’Hare as part of Machine Technology Day and in partnership with the Automation Conference & Expo 2016, produced by Automation World and Packaging World. The Automation Conference takes place May 24-25 at the same location.
Attendees will break into the concurrent specific sessions after a brief overview from Bryan Griffen, OMAC’s chairman, of PackML in packaging and non-packaging related automation.
The end user and integrator session will be presented by Geoff Gooding, senior packaging process specialist at Nestlé, and Todd Ebert, food and beverage industry manager for RoviSys Automation & Information Solutions. The hands-on workshop will demonstrate how information is exchanged in machine/unit integration across a system, PackTag structure, benefits, and approaches for implementing PackML.
Chris Thomas, director of controls technology at Axon, and Tom Dorward, production engineering manager for Mettler-Toledo, will lead the hands-on session focused on specific OEM tasks and the Make2Pack approach in implementing PackML. They will demonstrate a full implementation of PackML within a machine/unit down to the component level and the benefits of reusable modules.
Bringing all attendees back together, John Kowal, director of business development at B&R Industrial Automation, will discuss how to present and manage PackML projects in your organization, and will also review the day’s breakout sessions.
Breakfast, lunch and an evening reception are included with registration. Class size for the workshop will be limited to encourage personalized attention and time for questions and answers.
The PackML Workshop is available exclusively for registered attendees of Machine Technology Day, which includes presentations on safety, standards and processes from leading organizations and subject matter experts.
The Automation Conference & Expo, which requires an additional registration fee, provides opportunities for attendees to learn about and share best practices in automation, manufacturing systems, engineering, software development, machine design, line integration, operations and performance.
