Reflections on a Smart Mirror

July 15, 2016

Your next mirror might show more than your reflection.

Mirror, mirror on the wall…who’s the best app developer of them all?

I’m sure the mirror would respond: “Ryan Nelwan, of course.”

According to an article in Tech Insider, Ryan is an engineer at San Francisco-based Swipe Labs who created a smart touchscreen mirror that reflects more than your face staring back at you. It will also show you the weather, the temperature and the amount of time it will take you to get to work. It can connect to in-home smart devices—like Nest, deliver news, play music and videos, and even request an Uber.

You can move the apps around on the mirror or control the volume of your morning playlist with just a touch. A tap of the surface will also pull up a keyboard to find what you are looking for on Reddit, for example.

Select a video from the content list and watch a movie while you blow-dry your hair.

And, if you have a meeting you need to get to, the mirror will alert you that you’re running late. Then, all you have to do is pull up the Uber app from your bathroom mirror and finish brushing your teeth.
