The Schipper Eggs Company Keeps a Sharp Eye on Feed Mixes

Nov. 8, 2016

The health and productivity of hens at Schipper Eggs depends on many automated operations coming together––and remote management.

The feed mill at Michigan’s Schipper Eggs is a busy one. The company must store, mix and move tons of grain to ensure egg-laying hens receive just the right mixture of grain, soybean meal and vitamins and minerals.

Dan Berghorst, facilities manager at Schippers, makes sure the hens are fed correctly through the company’s automated system, which ensures mixing, food delivery and appropriate modifications occur in a timely fashion. Berghorst found that Opto 22’s customizable groov system could remotely control feed mixes and adapt quickly with changing needs. Monitoring incorporates streaming video.
