ABB recently won an order to provide integrated digital automation and electrical systems for Emami Cement’s greenfield cement grinding unit at its plant in Orissa, India. Emami Cement, the flagship company of the Kolkata-based Emami Group , is investing in setting up advanced and energy-efficient cement plants to meet future demand from ongoing infrastructure investment in the country. Over 50% of the cement capacity in India currently uses ABB’s automation solutions.
With increasing focus on the cement sector to reduce energy consumption and optimize production, Emami cement is implementing advanced automation solutions that focus on minimizing costs and improving plant uptime.
ABB’s electrical and automation solution at the new facility have been developed and optimized based on over a century of experience and know-how of electrification and process control in cement production. ABB provides integrated products, services and solutions to help customers in the cement industry optimize their power and productivity, resulting in increased availability and lower lifetime investment costs.
“India’s infrastructure and housing is an integral part of our country’s growth and we would like to ensure we contribute to the national cause providing best in class quality cement to our consumers, at the same time being environmentally responsible by deploying world-class technology and manufacturing process in our plants” adds Mr. Vivek Chawla, CEO, Emami Cement Limited.
ABB will be undertaking complete project imlementation of supply, erection, testing and commissioning for the electrical distribution and ABB AbilityTM 800xA automation system. The electrical distribution system includes a 220 kV Switchyard with 20/25 MVA 220kV/11kV Transformer, 11 kV Board, Intelligent Motor Control Center, Distribution transformer, medium- and low- voltage capacitors and related accessories. System 800xA DCS will integrate control, electrical and communication systems for optimal visibility into all processes for stable production and efficent use of all raw materials and energy.
Madhav Vemuri, ABB Senior Vice President, Industrial Automation , India says “ABB’s value proposition for the cement sector is the ability to offer and execute integrated process and power automation solutions backed by years of expertise.. We specifically help optimize energy and raw material consumption, which are two major costs in the sector.”
ABB offers a comprehensive package of solutions, products and services for the complete primary production chain for the cement industry. Customers have benefited immensely from lowering energy cost, raw material waste and improving overall plant productivity.
Scalable automation solutions provide an easy entry to benefit from the next-generation of digital automation products. A small, basic system can be rapidly extended into a fully integrated and optimized automation solution, to deliver even greater value.
ABB Ability System 800xA extends the reach of traditional automation systems – beyond control of the process – to achieve the productivity gains necessary to succeed in today’s business markets.
System 800xA provides the flexibility to implement the functions that customers require today and the agility to add others as needs evolve. Where others promote “rip and replace” migration strategies, ABB delivers true system evolution, allowing customers to build on their strong process control system foundation and secure these investments over the complete plant lifecycle.
