EPC’s versatile Model 30M and Model 30MT provide rotary feedback over a wide range of operating conditions

Encoder Products Company (EPC), worldwide manufacturer of motion sensing devices, is announcing additional options for their low-profile 30 mm diameter magnetic encoder modules. The Model 30M and Model 30MT provide accurate incremental feedback, even in harsh operating conditions, by means of advanced sensing and signal processing technology. Now with upgraded options to choose any resolution from 1 to 1024 and 1 to 16 pole commutation, the Models 30M and 30MT have even more to offer. Product videos provide product demonstrations and installation instructions.

High Performance Magnetic Sensing

The Model 30M and Model 30MT combine a Hall-effect sensor, advanced signal processing circuitry, and a small magnetic target which can be affixed to a rotating shaft via a supplied shaft adaptor or insert. With a wide sensor-to-magnet air gap and excellent waveform symmetry and repeatability, the Model 30M tolerates shaft misalignment and delivers signal accuracy exceeding that of other magnetic encoders. The Model 30M is available with connector options of an 8-pin M12, 8-pin Molex, or 16-pin Molex. The Model 30MT comes with an 8-pin M12 connector and a threaded housing for easy installation.

More Options

The Model 30M and Model 30MT now offer any resolution from 1 to 1024 CPR (4096 PPR with Quadrature Counting). With the 16-pin Molex connector on the Model 30M, users can choose any option from 1-pole to 16-pole commutation, making the Model 30M EPC’s product with the most commutation options available.

Suitable for high-performance applications, the
Model 30M and Model 30MT also offer:

  • Maximum frequency of 350MHz
  • Optional index channel
  • Two voltage selections
  • Four output types

“With these upgrades, the Model 30M and Model 30MT offer even more versatility and options for different electrical configurations,” explains Sarah Walter, an Electrical Engineer and Technical Sales Manager at EPC. “Customers have asked for more resolution options, and more commutation options, so we worked hard to make those improvements to these products.”

Designed for Harsh Operating Conditions

Impervious to dust, dirt, and moisture, the Models 30M and 30MT feature a chemically inert high-temperature nylon housing and non-contact magnetic sensing. These encoders are capable of operating in temperatures from -40º C to 120º C and can be sealed to IP69K. With a generous sensor-to-magnet air gap of 0.022”, the Model 30M and Model 30MT holds ratings of 100g @ 11ms for shock and 20g @ 10 to 3000 Hz for vibration.

Applications

The Model 30M and Model 30MT are versatile, cost-effective solutions for non-contact, end-of-shaft rotary feedback in commercial, industrial and non-industrial applications. Some examples are servo or stepper motor control, mobile equipment speed and steering sensing, timber processing machinery, studio and stage equipment, solar panel positioning, vending machines, rotary valve positioning, punch presses, and robotics.
