Moxa, Inc., a global provider of communications infrastructure solutions for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), announced today that its UC-8100 embedded computing platform is now certified to operate on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network, making it the world's first industrial-grade wireless computer to earn Verizon 4G LTE certification. As a result, users of the Moxa UC-8100 will benefit from reliable, high-speed connectivity over the country's largest wireless carrier, as well as from Verizon's award winning customer support.
"Earning certification from Verizon is an important step for Moxa's wireless business, one that carries a great deal of authority because it is recognized as having one of the most rigorous testing protocols of any carrier," said Daniel Liu, Business Development Manager for Moxa. "Additionally, we are proud to have joined the Verizon Partner Program to gain access to its innovative technology solutions, training and resources to add more value to the Moxa customer experience."
Introduced last year, the Moxa UC-8100 Series wireless computer makes it simple for systems providers to offer a complete monitoring service for remote field devices used in large-scale, big data WAN applications, such as Smart Grid telecom, residential solar power systems, and city-wide IP video surveillance programs. In solar applications, for example, the UC-8100 acts as a compact, highly flexible, vendor-agnostic data logger that connects to inverters, string combiners, smart meters, and other devices, then transmits that data over Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or cellular.
The UC-8100 Series computer has a slim form factor (10.1 x 2.7 x 12.8 cm) designed for DIN-rail mounting. Despite its small size, it can provide system designers with unbeatable flexibility for managing heavy-load data processing and communications. Two LAN ports and up to two serial ports connect the UC-8100 to devices, and built-in SD and mini SD sockets allow for easy storage expansion, delivering plenty of space at a highly economical price. Since the UC-8100 is exceptionally programmable and customizable, it is able to handle nearly any data collection and communication task from nearly any vendor's device.
Says Liu: "The UC-8100's advanced remote monitoring and analytics is a huge value-add for systems and software providers. The platform helps make it easy and cost-effective to establish the necessary infrastructure for those services."
Liu notes that for a limited time, Moxa is offering a specially-priced starter kit to system integrators that are interested in using the UC-8100 in their application. The starter kit includes a UC-8100 unit, a wireless module (Wi-Fi or LTE), pre-installed tools, and instructions for enabling VPN and routing functions. Interested system integrators can obtain a starter kit direct through Moxa's online store or through select Moxa distributors.
