Pepperl+Fuchs has introduced the VisuNet RM Shell 4.0 remote monitor firmware for industrial thin client work stations. The new RM Shell 4.0 offers significant enhancements through a simplified touch-screen optimized user interface, advanced security features, Windows Embedded Standard 7 and plug-and-play start-up capabilities.

“The RM Shell 4.0 can completely replace the Windows desktop,” said Kristen Barbour, product marketing manager. “The firmware is optimized for both conventional and virtualized process automation systems, and it’s ready to go right out of the box.”

The RM Shell 4.0 firmware is embedded with the highest security features available, including Microsoft Enhanced Write Filter mechanisms, a built-in firewall, a USB lockdown and restricted web browser. Operators are also restricted from accessing the backend software of a virtualized system, further increasing the security of the system. Additionally, the RM Shell 4.0 allows three different password-protected user roles that allow critical system settings to be modified only by authorized engineers or administrators.

The RM Shell 4.0 supports common connection protocols including Microsoft RDP 8.0 and VNC. With backup connections and connection-loss detection, the RM Shell 4.0 automatically connects to a system during initial configuration and will automatically reconnect to a system after detecting a signal loss.
