PC for harsh environments

Jan. 13, 2011
With the new Panel PC 725, B&R Industrial Automation has designed a robust and well-protected HMI solution for use directly on the machine.

Installation on a support arm system permits a flexible mounting position and ergonomic operation, even in tight spaces. With IP65 protection from all sides, the housing holds up well in harsh environmental conditions, for example with dust and sprayed water.

The integrated 15" touch screen display provides an intuitive human machine interface. Equipped with an Intel Atom N270 processor, the Panel PC 725 is predestined for all standard PC applications, such as SCADA systems. Through the low power loss of the Atom design, the PC housing can be smooth - without heat sink fins - and is therefore easy to clean.

The combination of higher processing power and lower consumption allows a fan-free system. All components that require special cooling, such as processor and chipset, are positioned so that the heat is distributed directly over the housing. When using CompactFlash cards, the Panel PC 725 does not have any rotating parts, which guarantees a long lifespan.

Modular interfaces
The powerful Panel PC 725 provides users with extensive PC resources. With two Ethernet interfaces, two USB 2.0 interfaces and one serial interface, communication is ensured on the machine level and in the plant network.

Panel PCs with IP65 protection normally use expensive IP65 connectors, but the cabling on the Panel PC 725 is handled via the flange. In this way, cost-effective standard cables can be used. Additionally, the battery and CompactFlash cards are behind a separate cover, which makes service easier.
