Wireless LAN Serial Port Adapter

Nov. 3, 2010
connectBlue’s new OWS451 Wireless LAN Serial Port Adapter is ideal when a serial cable is to be replaced with a Wireless LAN connection.

Since the Serial Port Adapter has the TCP/IP and software drivers embedded, it also offers a seamless connection of a device to an existing 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wireless LAN network.

The OWS451 Wireless LAN Serial Port Adapter has dual-band support which makes it easier to identify interference free channels and connect to networks that utilize both the 2.4 and the 5GHz radio bands.

"Besides the benefits of dual-band functionality, our new Wireless LAN Serial Port Adapter is compatible with the existing connectBlue Wireless LAN, Bluetooth and IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee product range," says Rolf Nilsson, CEO of connectBlue. "Further, with the new Serial Port Adapter, we can offer the unique feature of Enhanced Enterprise Security which makes it possible to connect to existing Wireless LAN networks that utilize these security systems."

Thanks to the built-in TCP/IP and software drivers, there is no need for an additional driver to be installed in the host. The module interface is UART, and therefore, the OWS451 Serial Port Adapter will appear as a serial cable to the host.

The OWS451 Wireless LAN Serial Port Adapter offers several other features such as the ability to function faultless in the industrial temperature range of -40 up to +85C. The Serial Port Adapter supports 802.11n space time block code for extended range and throughput. It is also possible to choose either an internal antenna or dual external antennas. The Serial Port Adapter can operate in either infrastructure mode or ad-hoc mode.

Other popular features include extremely low power consumption and full radio approvals for Europe, US and Canada (R&TTE, FCC, IC) as well as compliance with EMC standards. Security support includes Enterprise, WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK, PEAP, LEAP, WEP64/128. Quality of Service includes 802.11e and WMM.
