Remote Fieldbus Interfaces Save Money

Jan. 11, 2010
The vendor has expanded the benefits of digital field technology and asset management in remote SCADA applications with introduction of Foundation Fieldbus Interfaces for ControlWave Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) and ROC800 Series Remote Operations Controllers.
These devices can now access multiple variables over a single pair of wires in a point-to-point or multi-drop configuration. The interface eliminates the need for technicians to cover hundreds of miles configuring and diagnosing instrument problems in wide-area SCADA networks, while also reducing installation and wiring costs. “Enabling the use of Foundation fieldbus-based devices in remote oil and gas production, pipeline, and water and wastewater applications marks a step change in the visibility that customers have into their operations,” said Neal Ingram, president of Remote Automation Solutions at the vendor. “This level of information ultimately increases a customer’s profitability by decreasing downtime and increasing production resulting from well-informed operational, maintenance, and management decisions.
