Encoder Features Fight Failure

Feb. 1, 2005
Though specifically designed for use on AC Vector motors, the T8.A02H Kubler 3.5-inch incremental hollowshaft encoder can be used in many other industrial encoder applications, says the vendor.

Because bearing failure is one of the most common reasons for mechanical failure of an encoder, the T8.A02H uses dual bearings that are preloaded and locked in place. This prevents disk table movement, which in turn increases bearing life and prevents failures. The T8.A02H also has a high, 250 g shock rating, enabling it to continue functioning when other encoders would fail, the vendor says. Optional isolation inserts are offered with the T8.A02H for use between the encoder and motor chassis to act as a thermal and electrical barrier, reducing the effect of noise and current on the encoder. Two types of tethers are offered for mounting the T8.A02H encoder to the rear of a motor—a “C face” tether to fit a 4.5 inch C-face bolt pattern, and a universal slotted style that can fit up to an 8-inch pitch diameter. The T8.A02H has an extended speed range of 6,000 RPM for continuous duty cycles.
