Smallest Linear Actuator

Feb. 1, 2005
At 21 mm square (0.8-inch), the Size 8 hybrid external linear actuator is billed by the vendor as the world’s smallest linear actuator.

The unit replaces four different components—a motor, couple, lead screw and nut. Shaft to lead screw couplers are not needed, saving time, money and labor during assembly into the final application, says the vendor. The rotating acme stainless steel lead screw is incorporated into the motor’s rotor. The external linear hybrid actuator is available in a variety of resolutions, ranging from 0.0015mm to 0.04mm per full step, and delivers thrust of up to 4.5Kg (10 lbs) without compromising life or cost. A standard size 8 external linear has 4 inches of visible lead screw. However, lead screw length, coil termination and the external nut can be customized to fit user application requirements.
