Integrated Process System

Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) Release 200 uses leading-edge open technologies to gather, view, analyze and act on information to increase productivity and quality, reduce costs, improve up time, enhance operator effectiveness and make better and faster business decisions.

According to the vendor, features in the new release increase production output by up to 6 percent, while reducing production costs by up to 3 percent. Says Victor Phillip Dahdaleh, Chairman of Aluminium Oxid Stade GmbH (AOS), Germany, “The installation of Honeywell’s Experion system allows us to share and act upon process knowledge across the enterprise, which has improved our production efficiency and performance at our refinery in Germany.”

Experion is a single system for process, business and asset management that uses a unified architecture, with embedded application technologies, to collect and integrate process and business data. New features in Experion R200 include: seamless integration with the vendor’s TDC and TPS distributed control systems; full access to HART device digital data; a faster, more secure network solution; and a model-based control technology that increases process stability and reduces valve maintenance. Experion R200 provides evolution and investment protection by allowing the functionality of previous systems from the vendor and from third parties to be fully migrated into a single system with one database. Experion R200 provides increased fault tolerance capability, security and faster response with a patented Fault Tolerant Ethernet (FTE) control network. The FTE design uses well-known networking protocols and standard off-the-shelf equipment to reduce commissioning and maintenance costs.

An embedded Profit Loop PKS algorithm replaces the PID algorithm with a true process model-based controller. Profit Loop PKS eliminates PID-related tuning software and service requirements to provide tighter and more robust control over a much broader range of process dynamics. Experion R200 also provides tight integration with the vendor’s Safety Manager PKS safety management system to proactively identify abnormal situations and eliminate problems before they can turn into incidents.
