According to a recent ARC survey, 41.9 percent of companies polled do
not have an energy czar and 42 percent have no energy team in place.
With smaller personnel resources devoted to this segment, energy tools
need to provide critical data visibility to existing workers, such as
maintenance engineers and plant managers.
The new SNAP I/O power modules, SNAP-AIPM-3 and SNAP-AIPM-3V, provide
broader voltage input ranges and scaling potential for three-phase power
monitoring and energy management applications. These power module
enhancements can monitor 480 VAC, 3-phase electrical equipment without
the need for a potential transformer. Both modules accept voltage inputs
up to 300 VAC, so 277 volt-line-to-neutral signals from plant equipment
can be wired directly to the module. The real-time data component
for energy monitoring is the one “feature” that all plant managers would love to have. With the
company’s SNAP PAC (Programmable Automation Controller) system, the power modules can be fully integrated into it and provide real-time decisions. This setup can provide visibility to specific business operations and possible
problems, such as energy usage during high-peak times. Also, each power
module provides up to 14 channels of data, including volts, amps,
volt-amps and true power for all three phases, plus true power sums. For
Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), these modules offer a simple
method for integrating power monitoring and energy consumption into
their machine control, the company adds.Opto 22www.opto22.com
