Energy Efficient Motor

Feb. 26, 2009
Energy efficient motors now at a less expensive price point. The development of copper rotor motors enhanced efficiency--but at a price.  A new motor replaces the copper rotor with aluminum to reduce cost. Siemens Energy & Automation Inc. announces a new line of NEMA Premium efficient motors with aluminum rotors.

These new motors help customers meet the year 2010 mandatory efficiency requirements of the 2007 Energy Independence & Security Act and provide higher efficiency at a lower cost.

The newest line of NEMA Premium efficient motors with aluminum rotors offer the same horsepower and rugged housing as Siemens' copper rotor-based NEMA Premium motors. They also meet the efficiency requirements of many states' utility rebate programs, such as the Sacramento Utility District (SMUD) Motors and Process Improvement Incentives and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Motor Drives Incentives programs. Designed for original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and customers who want an economically priced NEMA Premium motor, the new motors provide a lower cost motor that is still very energy efficient.

This aluminum rotor NEMA motor also represents Siemens’ expansion of its industrial line of motors, offering customers a choice between aluminum and copper rotors. These new aluminum rotor motors provide another energy efficient choice for customers who do not require the efficiency of copper rotors. They are available in general purpose, severe duty, IEEE 841, modified and custom-built motor configurations.
