Schneider Brazilian Team Targets Wells

Oct. 1, 2009
“Acqua View” is a programmable logic controller and human machine interface system designed for the exploration of large artesian wells.
Developed by the Schneider Electric Research & Development Brazilian team, the system is intended for deep-wells monitoring, allowing the stabilization and control of the dynamics of flow and pressure. Exploration analysis and maintenance information can be viewed at any time.“Responsible use of natural resources is fundamental to preserving them. The inadequate exploration of wells, for instance, can result in contamination or make water use unfeasible. We developed this system exactly to eliminate those problems,” says José Nilton Carvalho, Schneider Electric projects coordinator.Through the system, it is possible to identify the working power of a well. The system provides for the maximum draw from the well, balancing the replenishment so that the well won’t go dry. The system also remotely monitors pump wear, by keeping tabs on flow., dynamic level and electric parameters. This makes it possible to identify the need for preventive pump maintenance. In addition to providing electric and thermal protection, the password-protected Acqua View system also provides protection against illegal atmospheric discharges through remote monitoring of emissions and associated reports.Today, Acqua View is targeted for large-capacity wells. To expand the solution, the Schneider Electric R & D Brazilian team is dedicated to adapting the system for smaller wells.  Sílvia Pereira, [email protected], is a freelance journalist based in Brazil.
