Machine vision is being used more often for robot guidance.

Stäubli Robotics (www.staubli.com), a robotics supplier based in Faverge, France, has announced the signing of a partner agreement with Cognex Corp. (www.cognex.com), a supplier of machine vision systems and industrial identification products based in Natick, Mass.

This agreement aims to promote Stäubli Robotics automated solutions equipped with vision systems using Cognex products. Machine vision is used in a growing number of robotic applications and allows businesses of all sizes to achieve significant increased productivity, making them more competitive in their markets. Cognex and Stäubli already have a large international presence serving clients around the world in multiple industries.

Patrice Denizard, director of sales for Cognex in France, said, “This agreement formalizes years of casual cooperation and is an important step in our robotic strategy. It complements several initiatives taken into InSight product development, notably Patmax, an industry-leading geometric pattern matching software for location of form and form recognition. This is supported by the remote head version of the InSight 5000 series camera which is compatible with standard robotic cables and connections. This association with Stäubli, a global player in this market, will ensure our ability to develop in this rapidly expanding market of vision-guided robots.”

Stäubli is a global supplier including small, medium and large four- and six-axis robots from 450 millimeter to 3200 millimeter reach and one- to 220-kilogram payload. Cognex designs, develops, manufactures and markets machine vision systems.
